We have had several dogs (small / big breeds) in our family over the years and went into a unfamiliar territory with a pure bred bouvier des flandres. Our son of 11 always wanted a large hairy teddy bear breed that can share his bedroom with him and to watch Tv without getting disturb. When searching for his dream dog that match his personality we came across Madeleine Janse Van Vuuren. She does not over bred her children and not placing them the entire day in kennels for breeding purposes. She stays on a big plot whereby her children lives like queens and kings and get all the loving and tender love from her. She is very strict when it comes to home approvals, as this breed is not met for anyone, only suitable family will get her babies. When we saw Bella for the 1st time she stole our hearts! Her loyalty and unconditional love makes her the ideal family member. She is a great companion and a new best friend, not only for my son but for all of us.
She loves to travel and has accompanied us to various places whereby people cannot stop talking about her healthy coat and teeth and personality. In addition, she was easily trained to act accordingly so that she can be taken to family visits. Bella is not the type of breed, that you can just play fetch to, she is a breed that will 1st observe and then decide if she would like to play along. She is not a big fan of cats but do get along with other dogs. They are very clever and behave like a new youngster in your home, she does not want to be treated like a dog but rather a human. Bouviers got lots of energy and if you do not have the patience for energetic dogs then they are not suitable for you.
What you should know before adopting one of these fur’s; Despite the huge size, the Bouvier des Flandres is a calm and docile dog known for having a pleasant nature, and is a great family pet. The Bouvier can get along well with other animals if raised with them; if not, some can be aggressive toward other dogs. Bouviers are large barking dogs. They don't shed because they need to be clipped, so they are very clean. If you keep your dog's coat cut short it is very manageable Bouviers need to be socialized and obedience trained, but like most shepherds, they learn easily, do great with kids, get along with other dogs and horses, and make good guard dogs. They are very smart The Bouvier Des Flandres are intelligent and learn quickly. However, they do have a mind of their own and need an even smarter, patient human to train them. They are happiest when they have a job to do – whether that means herding, obedience, “babysitting”, guarding, or even rescue work.
I am also considering another fur butt to match Bella’s size.
Thank you Madeleine for selecting us to be Bella’s long term family members!!! I hope the above will let more people understand the breed and treat them like their own human babies.
